Welcome to Cormorant CottageIt was amazing. Spacious and warm, we and our three teens had plenty of room to spread out. Beautiful grounds to walk with great sunsets. Christine Shiel & Family, Chicago, 2009. What a pleasure, stunningly beautifal calm surroundings Ronan and Deirdre Carolan, Ireland, 2008. What a treat - a beautifal relaxing escape from reality. True Irish hospitality Julie and Bob Murphy, UK, 2008. Situated in the Northern corner of the courtyard this self catering cottage can sleep up to six guests. It was built during 1846 as part of a programme of works that were created to provide famine relief during the Great Potato Famine of the time. The building originally housed stabling forsome of the many horses that were needed on a large country estate such as Lough Cutra Castle Estate. In the 1920's the Gough family, who were the then owners of the Estate, closed up the Castle and converted several areas of the courtyard into a large residence for themselves. They brought with them many original features from the Castle, such as wooden panelling and oak floorboards from the main Castle dining room and marble fireplaces from the bedrooms. We have furnished and decorated sympathetically and accordingly meaning that our guests can experience the history and heritage of the estate and buildings, but with 21st Century conveniences.
